Fat Girls Dance! (10. Dance in public)

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a dancer. Not in the traditional toddler ballet class way but a totally self-taught and often awkward way. Any of my close family members can tell you about how I’d dance in my crib to “It takes two” by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock. My grandfather calls me Boogie Woogie.

It’s taken me 29 years to realize the impact dance has had on me. I’ve been taking sporadic dance classes over the last few months but the Fat Girls Dance experience really put me over the edge in my gratitude. I feel best when I’m dancing.

Me: “Is this a good dancer pose? Can you see my tail in the back? Why do dancers wear so much flannel? Okay, I’ll shut up”

Day 1 of Fat Girls Dance was all about self-love and dance classes. First was a class led by Drea of Dove Beauty where I created my own Dove Beauty commercial. Up next were classes taught by Amanda LaCount and Charity Holloway from 4ThirtyTwo. I’m honored to have learned from them. Their talent is so effortless! A quick video is on my Instagram.

Day 2 of FGD was focused on performance and celebration. Miss Eaves, Amanda LaCount, 4ThirtyTwo, Pretty Big Movement and the Fat Girls Dance team themselves put on an incredible show! After the performances, we ate and enjoyed the vibes. The DJ played all the hits and we were getting DOWN!

I am SO grateful to Cathleen and the rest of the Fat Girls Dance crew for hosting such a spectacular event.
